David Alexander, Acting Second Horn

David Alexander joins the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as acting second horn for the 2023-2024 season. Previously a horn fellow at the New World Symphony, Mr. Alexander has performed with ensembles across the country, including the Houston Symphony and Princeton Symphony Orchestra. He has held fellowships at music festivals such as the Music Academy of the West, Yellow Barn Music Festival, Bowdoin International Chamber Music Festival, and the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme. In recent years, he has become enamored with historically-informed performance, and has appeared on classical and baroque horn with Juilliard415 and Les Arts Florissants. Mr. Alexander holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Julie Landsman, Jennifer Montone, and Todd Williams and was a proud recipient of the school’s Kovner Fellowship. His own teaching career has included a teaching fellowship at the Iberacademy in Medellín, Colombia as well as masterclasses at the University of Houston, the China Conservatory of Music, and the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
