Rachel Golub, First Violin Associate

When not playing opera, Rachel Golub holds the viola/violin chair at Moulin Rouge! on Broadway and is a member of the violin section of the Classical Tahoe orchestra. Her alter ego, Go-Ray, is the singing half of the 2010s duo Go-Ray & Duke.

Rachel also performs and records with Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Trey Anastasio (The Rescue Squad), Elliott Sharp, Sharon Jones, Adele, Antibalas, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Hamilton, The Walkmen, and many others.

Rachel’s violin teachers included Lorand Fenyves, Erick Friedman, and Nina Beilina. Rachel also studied sitar with Ustad Shahid Parvez and got her B.A. in Classics at Yale.

A semi-retired marathon swimmer, Rachel was known for crossings of the Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel and has also circumnavigated Manhattan twice. The Patagonian swims inspired the creation of the Liminophone, an algorithmic instrument that sonified New York Harbor weather data in real-time. Now she resides atop Hellgate Hill in Manhattan and is a budding swim-mom.
