Happy Opening Night of Akhnaten! Over the last few weeks, we have had the pleasure of working under the baton of Karen Kamensek, who will lead us through this run of Philip Glass’s opera, Akhnaten. That’s a wrap! This week, we finished all rehearsals of the @philipglassmusic opera, #Akhnaten, which premieres on Friday night. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!

One of our most frequently asked questions: How do you manage to play for so many hours? Isn’t it physically tiring to play opera?
Answer: Yes! Many of our members take time out of their day to rest, recover, and strengthen their bodies. Whether that’s going to a physical therapist, chiropractor, practice yoga, or just taking a hot bath, it’s imperative for our musicians to take part in some form of self care so that they don’t sustain over-usage injuries. A few of our violinists spent their Friday morning off taking a Barre class together. How’s that for teamwork? 💪🏼

Meet Met Orchestra Musicians Cathy Sim (1st Violinist) and Xiao-Dong Wang (Associate 1st Violinist). Last season, their daughter Andrea auditioned for the @metopera Opera Children’s Chorus. She joined the cast and crew on stage for several performances of Puccini’s La Boheme and Boito’s Mefistofele. We took a little time to chat with them about what it’s like to perform at The Met as a family!
