Humans of the MET: Karen Marx and Duncan Patton

MET Orchestra violist Katherine Anderson has been interviewing orchestra members to capture a snapshot of the many personalities of the Met as they talk about their lives both in and out of music. Here she interviews husband and wife Duncan Patton and Karen Marx. Karen is  Assistant Principal Second Violin and Duncan is Principal Timpanist of the MET Orchestra.

KA: What do you enjoy about working together in the MET Orchestra?

K&D: The nicest part about working in the same place is the shared experience. It's a privilege to get to spend so many hours a day with your partner! Even if our experience isn't identical, we have an intimate understanding of what the other does.

KA: What do you enjoy doing together outside of the Met?

K&D: Spending time with our family

Walking our dog Scout

Good food and good Bourbon

Listening to jazz

Taking trips together during the summer

We pretty much just enjoy each others' company!
