Humans of the MET: Wen Qian and Ming-Fen Hsin

MET violist Katherine Anderson has been interviewing orchestra members to capture a snapshot of the many personalities of the MET as they talk about their lives both in and out of music.  Here she speaks with Wen Qian and Ming-Fen Hsin, members of the first violin section since 1997 and 1993, respectively.  They also happen to be married!

KA:  What do you enjoy most about playing together in the Met orchestra?

W&M:  What we love the most are the times when we get to sit together, sharing a stand in the 1st violin section.   It challenges us and we get to play off of each other.  It's  also nice to be able to talk about work at home and know that we really understand where the other person is coming from....we share the same world.

KA:  What activities do you enjoy when you are not at work?

W&M:  Playing tennis, cooking, teaching, coaching, and spending time with our kids who are 8 and 6

KA:  Do your kids enjoy visiting the  Met?

W&M:  Yes, they especially love the grilled cheese sandwiches in the cafeteria!
